I am in receipt of your communication of the 30th ultimo relative to the payment of Police and Lighting rates on Houses rented by the Military Authorities.

The same was submitted to the Governor by whom I am instructed to state for the information of the Major General commanding that the opinion of the Attorney General is clear that Houses rented as Quarters for Officers to reside in are liable to Rates.
